Training & Learning

To support continuous development of our staff, we encourage all staff member to upgrade their knowledge and skills, and develop their capability through continuous training. We provide a variety of internal training programmes which cover job-specific knowledge, supervisory skills, soft skills, languages and regulation enhancement etc. Being a member of a global healthcare group, staff also have the opportunities to take part in training, seminars, summits etc that are organised in other geographies. Training sponsorships are available for staff to participate in local or overseas training courses.

As a Nurse Educator at Gleneagles, I am responsible for clinical-based education and learning needs of all levels of nursing staff, clinical practicum for nursing students, curricula design, competency assessment, etc.

"I am pleased to have had the opportunity to help establish the Operating Theatre (OT) department when I joined Gleneagles in 2016 before the hospital commenced operation. I witnessed how the department has developed from scratch and expanded to our scale today.

Working in the OT has always been my passion. Although the work here may look monotonous, every case is unique and unexpected situations happen at any time. I enjoy taking on challenges, and I am proud to be part of the OT team which demonstrates professionalism and team spirit. The experience and job satisfaction gained throughout handling different issues in the OT are unique and rewarding. Our hospital also provides lots of on-the-job internal training. "We are not just colleagues but also good friends. We were secondary school classmates 12 years back and then we both studied radiography in the same university. After graduation, we joined the Radiology Department of Gleneagles together.

In our view, Gleneagles provides good work experience for energetic fresh graduates because they are exposed to more learning opportunities in a new hospital. Meanwhile, our partnership with a university helps us gain experience from a wide variety of radiology cases. "I started my career at Gleneagles as Inventory Executive in the Pharmacy department. The plenty of support from the hospital and my colleagues has supported me in achieving my goal as a Dispenser. I hope I can continue to progress along the career ladder.

In addition to the training on relevant practical skills, I was given a practicum opportunity in the hospital to gain more experience in pharmacy while I was pursuing my part-time studies in dispensing last year. I am particularly grateful to the Pharmacy Manager who nominated me to take the course and offered me a lot of support and confidence. Upon successful completion of my studies, I was promoted to Dispenser. “This is my 5th year working at the Sample Collection Centre(SCC) of Gleneagles. I joined as a Healthcare Assistant (phlebotomist) and was promoted to Senior Healthcare Assistant in 2020. I appreciate that the hospital is open to listen and always welcomes feedback from staff while providing sufficient resources for me to develop my career.

I am pleased to have the trust from my supervisor who nominated me to be the trainer of a phlebotomy course that will be coordinated by SCC. I have been looking forward this coaching opportunity to provide practicum training to students. Phlebotomy is not only about techniques but most importantly patient care. I hope to share all my experience to the future phlebotomists, which I believe such can help them understand more about the field and learn how to be good phlebotomists.

Apart from my work at Gleneagles, meanwhile I am taking a part-time degree course in business management. I hope to get myself well-equipped with more different skills as I always believe that opportunities come to those who are prepared.”

This is my 6th year working at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) since I joined Gleneagles as a Registered Nurse in 2016.  I am provided with lots of learning opportunities here which help me achieve my career aspirations. Our partnership with The University of Hong Kong (HKU) creates a great platform for me to accumulate experience as we have the exposure to a variety of complex cases. I also get the chance to learn the latest procedures and techniques such as plasma exchange and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), which are all comprehensive and precious learning opportunities to me.

At Gleneagles, we are committed to delivering the best patient care, which contributes an extremely important part in the nursing profession.  Besides, I am pleased to have the chance to contribute to the hospital’s mentorship programme for newly joined nursing staff by providing on-the-job guidance to and sharing experience with colleagues. Through this programme, new staff can gain experience via clinical training while getting familiar with the working environment at CCU. I believe all these learning and training opportunities would help them develop and advance their career in this area of specialisation. These are the reasons why I always find it satisfying being a CCU nurse. 

Apart from my work at Gleneagles, I furthered my studies and completed my Master’s degree in Nursing in 2021.  I am excited to continue to strive to be a successful nursing specialist in critical care.

It has been my 5th year with the Operating Theatre (OT) of Gleneagles. The collaborative culture and learning opportunities provided have brought me amazing experience, and I am pleased to be part of the growth journey of the hospital. 

Before joining Gleneagles, I had served two public hospitals as an operating theatre assistant (OTA) for over eight years. It was a difficult decision moving from the public to the private sector, but I received a lot of encouragement from my family, former colleagues, and friends who had joined Gleneagles from the very beginning of its establishment. Thanks to the guidance and support from my supervisor and colleagues, I could adapt to the new working environment quickly.  

I still remember when I joined in 2018, there were only a few OTAs; but for just a few years, we have developed a large team of OTAs supporting multi-dimensional surgeries. I appreciate that our team is like a family which everyone is happy and enjoys working together. The hospital has been supporting my career development and I was excited to be promoted one year after I joined. From then I have been offered many opportunities of providing supervision and mentoring support to our junior staff. At Gleneagles, the duties of OTAs are far beyond preparing anaesthesia supplies. As part of the surgical team, we work closely with the anaesthesiologists and our main role during surgery is to assist them in performing anaesthesia procedures and monitoring patient's vital signs. We also support nursing colleagues in the preparation of various surgical equipment. These are all valuable learning opportunities to me.  

My department is always willing to offer job opportunities to those with enthusiasm for the healthcare industry, especially OT, even though they have no relevant experience. At my current role, I am more than happy to influence other passionate colleagues with my 12 years of experience, help them to learn to be independent OTAs, and to find satisfaction from their job. I look forward to my next five years growing together with my team and Gleneagles, serving more patients.

I am from Malaysia and relocated to Hong Kong with my family in 2021. Before joining Gleneagles, I had worked as a Senior Pharmacist for around seven years at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, a sister hospital of Gleneagles Hong Kong 

I am blessed to have friendly and supportive colleagues who have helped make my first year at Gleneagles exciting and fruitful. The mentorship programme for new staff was great, it helped me get familiar with the operations of the Pharmacy department.Besides, Gleneagles has been introducing advanced and innovative technologies to various service areas, including the fully-automated drug dispensing system and vial filling system at Gleneagles. And the fact that my Cantonese is improving is an extra bonus!

I’m looking forward to developing my career here and enjoy my life in Hong Kong. No matter what kind of new adventures there will be in the future, I am proud of being part of the Gleneagles family!

I started my culinary career as a pastry chef in a 5-star hotel 15 years ago, and later had a chance to work in Australia to gain more pastry experience. After I returned to Hong Kong, in 2017, my Chef friend working in Gleneagles told me that this new hospital was establishing its Food & Beverage (F&B) team. I decided to take on the challenge and joined as a Junior Sous Chef, and was then promoted to Sous Chef.

My duty is to ensure the pastry and cold plate food and products delivered at Gleneagles are up to standard, be it food quality or hygiene, as well as ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen.I never thought that a hospital could be a place for creativity. Here we have many opportunities to try out new things and share our ideas.I particularly enjoy designing new menus and dishes. It’s wonderful to be able to make the best use of the skills and experience I gained from hotel catering, and every compliment from patients means a lot to me. As a hospital chef, serving patients with tasty and yet healthy food is my special way of expressing my care for them!

While Gleneagles celebrates its 5^th anniversary this year, I am happy to grow with the hospital as it is also my 5^th work anniversary. I shall continue to enhance my cooking techniques and skills, and deliver more quality gourmet dishes.
